Magic Spells in Movies

Because the use of spell is as old as the history of our society, it is no doubt even the film industry has adapted several witchcraft stories into a movie. It has long been established that these kinds of stories have gained popularity among the youth and been accepted by the adult audience.

Fairy tale stories such as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and Beauty and the Beast are examples of spell-oriented plots made into a movie.

Sleeping Beauty is a Disney motion picture about Princess Aurora who is cursed at birth by the evil fairy Maleficent. To the dismay of the three good fairies who raised the girl to avoid the spell, Princess Aurora fell into a deep sleep that can only be awakened by a kiss from her betrothed Prince Philip. Several plots to separate the two ensued, but Prince Philip was able to save the princess from the spell at the end.

In 1959, the movie was nominated for Oscars for its musical score that featured adaptations of Tchaikovsky compositions. Sleeping Beauty is adapted and included into several motion pictures. The 1987 film used the original title Sleeping Beauty. In 1941, Sleeping Beauty was part of the Disney picture titled Dumbo. It was also adapted into ballet in 1964 and 1984. Jeremy Kagan also did his own version titled Faerie Tale Theatre: Sleeping Beauty in 1983.

Another Disney character is Snow White. Her story is adapted into several motion pictures, the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for one. Snow White is a beautiful princess who the Kings’ wife is jealous of because of her fair beauty. The queen’s magical mirror told her about Snow White. The queen abruptly instructed a huntsman to kill Snow White. Since the huntsman let her go, the seven dwarfs adopted her. There are several magic spells illustrated in this story. The magic mirror is an example.

Beauty and the Beast is another traditional fairy tale that involves a spellbound character. Belle is a beautiful daughter of a merchant. Before his father left for a trading journey, he had asked his daughters what they want when he get back. Belle asked for a rose and his father’s safety. During his way home, he was lost in a forest and found shelter in a castle. Upon leaving the castle, he picked a red rose for his daughter. The Beast who owns the house then punished him for picking his favorite flower.
In exchange for his freedom, Belle lived with the Beast. Belle’s pure love for the Beast later broke the spell. The Beast, who turned out to be a handsome prince, was just punished by a fairy.

This fairy tale story is also adapted into several motion pictures such as Jean Cocteau’s film in 1946, Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise in 1991, Fielder Cook in 1976, to name a few.

Not only fairy tale stories have magic spells but also present-day motion pictures. The 1995 Practical Magic starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman is a story of sisters who grew up in a family of sorcerers. The blockbuster Harry Potter series is a fantasy adventure about Harry Potter who is a son of powerful wizards.

How Witchcraft and Spells Came to Be

The definitions of witchcraft depend on what field of study you are coming from. However, it is synonymous, most often than not, to sorcery, magic, and spell.

The dictionary defines it as the “art of bringing magical or preternatural power to bear” and the “influence of magic, sorcery, or charms.” In science, witchcraft is associated with the use of physic mechanisms to generate wicked powers without rituals and spells. Meanwhile, Social Anthropology, a study on human social behavior, classifies witchcraft as an ideology that explains various human misfortunes. It involves a supernatural being or a person capable of inflicting harm on an individual or a community in general.

A witch is a practitioner of witchcraft. The origin of the word came from Anglo-Saxon’s "wicca," meaning wise. Also related to Middle Low German, “wicken” means “to conjure.”

The history of witchcraft is as old as the rich history of human evolution. Some studies say the first witches were healthcare providers who discovered medicinal plants and herbs that affect euphoric emotions. This discovery led to shamanism, where a chemical-induced person talks to divine beings through rituals. Because of their abilities as a medium, they assumed roles significant in social decisions.

The evolution of witchcraft practices came side by side with the evolution of these assumed roles. The pagan beliefs blended with the Indo-European groups and spawned practices such as potions, casting spells, as well as performing works of magic. As religion became superior, witchcraft receded to the periphery of society. This time, it was branded as demon worship.

Primarily, witchcraft practices involve communication with the dead and divine spirits, weather manipulation, many medical applications, as well as adverse influence on human being’s mind, body, and will through casting spells. The negative witchcraft is usually called cursing and hexing. The latter—casting of spells—is the most apparent and known ability of a witch. The dictionary defines spell as “a word or formula to have a magical power.” Hence, a spell consists of set of words, verse, as well as rituals and actions. Most of the time, it is the combination of words, rituals, and materials.

The power of spells is based on the energy a practitioner puts into the rituals, or sometimes the will of the wisher to put negative or positive effect on an individual.

Spells are cast on varied methods; each has varying requirements, effects, and consequences.   Some examples of casting spells are by inscription of rune or sigils on an object to give such object magical powers. Another method involves the immolation or binding of a wax or clay image—usually witches use puppets—to affect an individual. There are also spells that require recitation of incantations, performance of physical rituals, and the use of herbs and medicinal plants.

Varying classifications of spell are known today. For example charms on love and success, spells on love, money, fertility, as well as ways to break curses. You may also encounter terms such as black magic, Voodoo dolls, Rudraksh beads, Hoodoo and so on.

Are Spells Projected Demonic Energy?

For the record, it is important to know that spells are projected energies sent out by spell casters of various color. Though not necessarily of the demonic type, this energy will also NEVER hurt you on two conditions.

One, you do not possess any of the negative collective consciousness imprinted on you. And two, you do not believe in any of these practices.

Ancient crafts

There had been many ancient practices since the olden times. These have surfaced and are now called by many names depending on the places where they came from: sorcery, witchcraft, voodoo, shamanism, and magic.

Like in all things, there is a dark side and a light side to these practices. There will always be a malevolent or benevolent part, an intention to hurt or an intention to heal.

The famous so-called Satanism, for example, uses the dark-side energies while the other group only uses light or benevolent energies. For purposes of information, the Satanic or demonic dark-side witchcraft energies are the most focused of all, and not necessarily the more powerful.

Spells

Spells are sometimes placed during satanic or demonic rituals by voodoo practitioners, sorcerers, witches or magicians who work in the dark side. Negative projections can also be sent by powerful shamans projecting hate, jealousy or a desire to possess your money, power, body or spirit.

Creating spells are not the sole province of malevolent witches, warlocks or bad people. Sometimes, spells are placed by sorcerers on themselves for protection against harm, or anything evil on them.

If a spell or a curse is placed on someone, this does not mean that person is bad. Mostly, these people are plainly accused of being a witch, a healer, or a herbalist. In the Middle Ages, they were burned at stakes. As they die, they might have screamed back at the crowd, “I’ll get back at you and hurt you.”

This scenario had set a pattern in the past. The negative energies are frozen in time. These are now the same energies that attract the collective consciousness into the future which is now.

Basic energies

In simplistic terms, this is the basic energy around spells and curses. Today, there are groups in the dark side that look for these patterns in certain susceptible people. At times, they look for regions on the planet and tap into these for the energy and empower themselves in the process.

When a person is vulnerable, angry or emotional, there is a tendency for spells to be attached to that person. When someone’s field is open (because of negative emotions), it is possible to project an idea into that person and locking her in a spell of intentional energy.

Last notes

It may seem surprising but there are still active cult groups today. Some of them are doing some bad things they were used to in the olden times. The best deterrent against spells and curses is still thorough information and understanding.

Knowing and fully understanding these age-old spells will dissolve your fears. For some strange reasons, spells have no power on people who do not fear but know how to face anything head on.

Types Of Spells

Spells are simply active prayers. Just like prayers, spells are used to catalyze or create change in one’s life or someone else’s, most often that of a loved one.

They are petitions to the Higher Powers to create the change. Spells are used to connect with our divine selves using our own energies to create changes.

Ordinarily, Wiccans/Witches will not perform a spell for anyone who has not asked and had given them permission. Spells, like those that use love magic to gain the good graces of an individual or curses are considered manipulative.

Anything that manipulates or goes against the free will of anybody is considered wrong.

Wiccan spells

The Old English term for witch is Wicca. They used it to counter all the negative stereotypes that society gave to witchcraft.

Wiccans use spells. These are rituals and prayers carried out to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life. However, these must adhere to the Wiccan Rede, the witchcraft code of conduct.

The overall consideration is that any spell used to manipulate, dominate, or control another person is forbidden. The Wiccan Rede rules that a witch may engage in any action as long as it is carefully considered and that their actions do not harm anyone including themselves.

All of witchcraft is ruled by the Threefold Law. This is the belief that any action taken by any witch affecting another person will come back to the witch threefold, whether good or bad.

Constructive spells

Constructive spells should be done during the waxing of the moon, the time when the moon is full and bright. These are spells performed for luck, some fertility rites and spells used for protection.

To achieve the best end results, all witches agree that spells should be practiced while in a positive mood. Most often, too, in the practice of witchcraft, they have aids in spells to guarantee good results.

These aids in witchcraft, believed to have magical properties, include different herbs and leaves. One example is the bay leaf used often to invoke positive energy.

Consecration or Purification

The dictionary defines consecration as a “formal dedication to a religious or divine purpose.” In the practice of witchcraft, consecration should be practiced before any tool can be used.

Consecration is a form of purification and is done with salt, water and incense. These all stand for the five elements of nature – water, earth, fire, air and spirit.

It is important that consecration used for witchcraft be done in a positive state of mind. This will incorporate the spirit part of the elements.

Consecration is actually to ask for and gain approval of the God and Goddess for what is about to be performed.

Wiccan God and Goddess

In witchcraft, all spells are basically used to channel the power of the Wiccan God and Goddess to initiate positive changes and for the resolution of problems. In this regard, a spell-giver must know the phase of the moon is in while performing the spells.

As an example, it is best to do banishing spells in the waning of the moon when it is dark. Sample spells include hope for the end of illness, warding off destructive insects in farms,  and many others.

What Are Spells?

In a word, spells mean prayers. For some, it would look like “magic prayers”. Prayers, as everyone knows, affect the very fabric of reality itself when uttered and requested.

When there is a tear in this reality, a prayer repairs and restructures that part of the fabric once again, restoring it to its pristine, original self. This is one of the ways how the universe renews itself.

With each spell performed, every prayer, each word within every prayer (and even the very letters of the words of every prayer) has a precise meaning aimed for a precise effect. And, thus producing the final result of a successful spell casting.

Divine intervention

When a spell is asked to be performed on your behalf, you are actually asking for a Divine intervention to take place in your situation. It is extremely important for you to understand that spells are not playthings to toy around.

The main point is that you have what the person is doing for you. In requesting a spell on your behalf, you must take the time to understand the type of spells the spell caster will perform.

Through the ages, there are many types of practices that can issue spells. Some of them would include Alchemy, Animism, Bonpo, Druidry, Egyptian Enochian, Hermeticism, Mantrik Hinduism, Hoodoo, Huna, Jewish Withcraft, Hermetic Qabalah, Nagualism, Quimbanda, Reiki, Santeria, Shamanism, Voodoo, Wicca, and many more listed around the world.

Protocols

In all of these styles, you have to understand that each requires a particular set of protocols and things you have to give up. The most important would be the rules that you will have to follow.

In some, the spells are accompanied by talismans and charms or amulets in order for these spells to work. This is not actually true for all of them, only on some intense, lower spells.

If these spells (or prayers, if you like) are performed correctly and all the protocols are in place, the request is granted and can have a dramatic impact on the intended person or situation. This happens even if the person is on the other side of the world.

Angels and entities

During the performance of spells, angels and other spirit entities are invoked to help make a success of these spells or prayers. Since these entities are pure energies themselves, spells are more in directing and guiding them to do things in aid of the spells.

There are other aids in casting spells. Witches use stones, herbs, candles, bones and others in order to attract the kind of energies needed for the present spell. These requests from free-floating entities and natural spirits have a price that witches must pay.

The payments are as varied as the spirits themselves. Some witches pay in actual blood drained from their bodies. Some require offerings. The spirits and entities feed off on these and become stronger. Consequently, your spell will then work.

Over time, the spell caster builds up rapport with certain entities and angels. Hence, their spells become more effective. When you ask for a spell from a witch, know that every effort is exerted for its success.
